Kym Franklin

Kym Franklin is a vibrant and gifted vocal artist, vocal pedagogue choral conductor and composer. She is uniquely equipped to effectively perform diverse musical genres, from classical to gospel, while carefully maintaining their stylistic integrity, interpretation and technique. Kym is equally experienced in training students of varied and extreme cultures, backgrounds, vocal categories, ranges, skill levels and genres.

She is a mezzo-soprano whose passion for the human spirit, extensive knowledge of the human voice and understanding of the synergistic relationship between the two has set her apart as a professional vocalist and instructor.

Kym was awarded her M. M. in Vocal Performance/Vocal Pedagogy (with emphasis in Choral Conducting) from Roosevelt University, Chicago, Illinois, in January 2000. She graduated from Elmhurst College, Elmhurst, Illinois, in 1996 with a B.A. in Music.

In November of 2000, Kym was given the opportunity to tour Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Denmark with gospel great Jesse Dixon and the Chicago Gospel Singers. During this tour a representative of VME Musik (Germany) took notice of Kym’s singing style. As a result, she was asked to be the featured artist for VME’s European Gospel News tours 2001-2003 as well as Art and Act’s European Gospel Tours 2004-2008. During the summer of 2004, Kym performed as the understudy for Ms. Avery Somers (Nell) in the musical Ain’t Misbehavin at the Lincolnshire Marriott Theatre, in Lincolnshire, IL.

Kym has shared the stage with such noted artists as the Plain White T’s, Company of Thieves, Jesse Dixon, Chuck Berry, Ko Ko Taylor, Max Weinberg, Elsa Harris, Ethel Holloway, Al Green, MC Hammer, Taylor Dane, Bill Cosby, Sister Sledge, R Kelly and the O’ Jays. Kym’s client list includes professional singers such as Genevieve, former front woman for Company of Thieves (Wind Up Records) and Sarah Simmons of The Voice (Season 4). Kym stays busy teaching and performing on stage, in the studio and on regular international tours. She is pursuing opportunities that will allow her to live her simple but powerful mission through music; to uplift, inspire and remind us of our purpose while reassuring us that we are loved.
